Internal outboard fuel filters

An outboard fuel filter removes impurities such as dirt particles and, in some cases, water before they reach the engine. Deposits from the tank and fuel can collect quickly, particularly when petrol contains ethanol. The filter helps prevent contaminants from entering the engine and causing damage.

How often a fuel filter needs replacing depends on how much the outboard is used, whether privately or commercially. Visible dirt in a transparent filter is a sign that replacement may be needed. Smoke and loss of power can also indicate a fuel filter that needs replacing.
