Internal fuel filters

A fuel filter or petrol filter for outboard motors is designed to filter impurities such as dirt particles and sometimes water from the fuel
before they reach the engine. Especially when petrol is mixed with ethanol, impurities from the tank and petrol quickly settle in the petrol filter.

The purpose of the filter is to prevent impurities from entering the engine and causing damage.
How often a fuel filter needs to be replaced depends on how much the outboard motor is used. In other words, whether privately or commercially, the outboard motor was used a lot or less. Signs that a change is necessary include dirt in the filter. Because the filter is transparent, these are clearly visible from the outside. A smoking engine and loss of power are also signs that the fuel filter needs to be replaced.
