Outboard propeller shear pins
Many smaller outboards have a shear pin at the propeller. This pin protects the drive if the propeller strikes an object, breaking before more serious damage occurs. A split pin is often used to secure parts such as the propeller.
Choosing the right shear pin
- Always check your outboard’s make, model and power.
- Compare the diameter and length with the old pin.
- Use the original part number where available.
- Read the product description carefully: not every pin in this category is a propeller shear pin.
