Flush Clamps / Flushers

Flushing clamps for your outboard motor

Your outboard motor is cooled by the water in which you are travelling. The dirt and salt in this water can cause the cooling water system of your outboard motor or sterndrive to become clogged. This can lead to your motor overheating. It is therefore important that you regularly flush the outboard motor or sterndrive of your boat with clean tap water. You can use a flushing clamp for this. The flushing clamp has a standard garden hose connection to which you can connect a garden hose. Running clean tap water through your engine's cooling water system for a few minutes will flush out all the dirt. You can also use a flushing clamp to run your outboard motor on land. For example, to test the engine. Only with a flushing clamp can you test your outboard motor on land. By connecting these ‘ears’, as the flushing clamp is sometimes called, to the water supply, you can flush your outboard motor on land.

Saltwater outboard motor

An outboard motor is cooled by pumping water through pipes along the engine block. However, when saltwater flows through these pipes, it can cause erosion of the pipes, rust and salt deposits. This can damage your outboard motor. In addition, a blockage in the cooling pipes can cause the engine to overheat. The blockage can sometimes be identified by the fact that no cooling jet is coming out of the outboard motor. It is therefore very important to keep an eye on this and rinse your outboard motor after use in salt water. This will prevent damage and problems while driving.

You should always rinse an outboard motor after using it in salt water. There are several reasons for this. Salt water causes rust because it is a good conductor. Salt water also leads to salt deposits in the water pipes inside your outboard motor. Salt therefore has no positive effects on your boat motor and you should rinse it out with fresh water as soon as possible.
