Pry bars & split pins

Many smaller engines have a shear pin in the propeller to prevent damage to the engine if the propeller hits something. The shear pin will break if the propeller is braked by, for example, a rope or if the propeller hits the bottom.

What does a shear pin do?

The word says it all: break. However, this breaking only occurs in situations where it prevents more serious damage. The shear pins we are talking about here are found in outboard motors and form the connection between the propeller shaft and the propeller. If the propeller hits something underwater, such as a rock, causing the propeller to be blocked, the shear pin will break so that the propeller and propeller shaft do not suffer serious damage. Not all outboard motors have a propeller shaft-propeller connection with shear pins; modern outboard motors and outboard motors with more horsepower have a rubber slip clutch. For outboard motors with shear pins, Hebor Watersport has an extensive range of the right shear pins.

Split pins

Hebor Watersport has a range of split pins in various sizes. These split pins are made of stainless steel and are therefore particularly suitable for use on board for all kinds of fastening work. In water sports, split pins are used on outboard motors on the propeller shaft to secure the nut so that it cannot come loose and the propeller is not lost. The split pins are available in sizes ranging from 1.6 x 20 mm to 5.0 x 50 mm.
