Outboard motor cleaning & protection
Is your outboard motor due for maintenance? On this page, you will find everything you need to maintain your outboard motor.
Outboard motor (winter) maintenance
To get the most out of your outboard motor, it is important that you maintain it properly. All moving parts in your outboard motor need to be lubricated from time to time. We sell high-quality oil and lubricants that have been specially developed to keep your outboard motor running smoothly. Consult the user manual for your outboard motor and lubricate all important parts of the motor. Lubricate the cables, throttle levers and shift rods once a year, or twice a year if the outboard motor is used frequently. On this page, you will find the most important recurring maintenance activities for the (winter) maintenance of your outboard motor.
Cleaning the carburettor
Tank maintenance is important. It is advisable to drain all petrol from the carburettor, tank and pipes if you want to disconnect the outboard motor for the winter. This is because the methanol in unused petrol evaporates, leaving an oily residue. This can cause the carburettor to become clogged. As a result, the engine will no longer idle and will run irregularly. It is important to clean the carburettor of your outboard motor thoroughly.
Also check that the petrol filter is still clean. Most petrol filters are transparent, so checking them is quick and easy. When replacing the filter, make sure you use the correct type. Preservative oil prevents rust in the internal parts of your engine, such as the cylinder walls.
